Angry Pancake

Midterm

This was my most successful project because this was the first time that I successfully drew what I saw rather than using stored symbols. This was an important step because it improved my artwork in other projects later on in the quarter. I think this was so successful because I was so close to what I was drawing which made it easier for me to see.

I learned the most from this project because this is where I learned that art does not have to be so obvious. This project was also very interesting to me because I expected it to be much harder but in fact working in groups made ideas come much quicker and the splitting up of work was also very efficient.

Print

I feel like this peice was actually fairly successful maily the color combination. My favorite part of this print was the yellow stripes left on the unicorns body and how the holes left in the mane make it look more realistic. What worked very well on this project was the background pattern and teh overall body shape of the unicorn. What didn't work as well was when certain parts of the linocut weren't covered with ink which left certain spots more blank than others. This worked better on the second color of the print because it added texture and let more of the yellow come through from the background.

Stencil

I enjoyed this project very much and also learned a lot. I realized that I should have created a lot more shapes for my stencil to actually look realistic. Had I taken my time I would have seen more shapes which would have made my stencil look better. I also should have been more careful while spraypainting because the paint went over the edges of my stencil creating the orange next to my portrait.

Pencil Self Portrait

When working on this project I learned about the importance of making the various features of a face proportionate and balanced. The only way to make a face look realistic is if the features are as symetrical as possible and are proportionate to the other features on the face. I had a lot of trouble with making the mouth proportionate and also keeping it balanced between the nose and the chin. I also had trouble with the shaping of my head and making it seem realistic. A few important things I learned from this are that your eyes go directly in the middle of your head, your nose goes directly in the middle of your eyes and chin and your mouth goes between your chin and nose.
